Who is behind this website

Reading time: 2 minutes

I’m not important, but all writers have biases - conscious or not. So for context this is my background and station in life.

I’m an English-speaking middled-aged white Aussie guy in the tech industry - just who we need to hear more from! (This reminds me of a great Arj Barker joke about a font called Sarcastica)

I’ve been passionately following the topic of climate change for probably 20 years or more, with increasing focus in the last few years.

I will probably over-estimate how easy it is for technology to be deployed. I will probably over-estimate how easy it is for global north citizens to challenge the system and effect change. I will have other biases I’m not even aware of.

Lebowsky

well, you know, that’s just … like … your opinion, man

The Dude (from The Big Lebowsky)

Yes, these writings are just my own opinion and perspective. You might disagree and maybe I get things wrong or our understanding of things changes over time - because science. I’m not the suppository of all wisdom.

Why am I writing this

I started out writing this content as a brain dump for myself. It sort of then coalesced into a series of hopefully semi-helpful explainers on various topics I had read about. I am not an expert, I don’t claim to be and wherever I can I link to stronger source material. I continue to write this material as I hope it helps bridge the gap to the curious.

I work with a lot of highly intelligent, highly educated people (not always the same group!) and it surprises me how little interest or knowledge they have in the climate crisis. Maybe this material becomes something that works to normalise some of these topics and helps us talk about it more.

Like the social contagion effect of seeing your neighbours get rooftop solar panels makes you more likely to do the same, hopefully some of my ramblings here help others talk about climate change and take some action.

My influences

The following authors and communicators have educated me greatly over the years. Wherever practical I’ll link to their original work as I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I have.
